Dead Pixels We here at WorldStart have written about stuck pixels before and ever since, we've been getting questions from several readers about the difference between those and dead pixels. Is there a difference? Well, as a matter of fact, there is. But before you go any further, read here to find out what a stuck pixel is first. That will help you in understanding this tip a lot more. Once you've read it, please proceed! The main difference that comes along with a dead pixel is there's a part of your screen that's completely unlit. (On the other hand and as you read, a stuck pixel is either more bright or dull than the rest). So, when you have a dead pixel, the rest of your screen will look normal except for one space that is completely dark. It can happen with LCD screens, as well as, some sensors in digital cameras. Most dead pixels are only clearly noticeable if you have a solid color for the background of your desktop. Otherwise, you might not even know they're there. Also, just for your information, if you have a pixel that is completely white all the time, that's called a hot pixel. Either way, if you have one dead pixel or even a cluster of them, you can always send your screen back to the manufacturer for a fix or a new one. And now you know! ~ Erin You can't stop now! Q: A: On our message board, we have this wonderful thing called a search box. Yes, that's right! You can use that box to search through everything and anything our members have posted. You can either search the entire message board as a whole or you can search within one category (PC Ask and Answer Questions, PC Tips & Tricks, etc). Wow, that would make it quite a bit easier, huh?! So, if you'd like to search the whole board all at once, log in to your account and along the very top, you'll see a line of links. Look over to the right and you'll see one titled as Search. Click on the down arrow next to it and a search box will pop up. Type in a few keywords and then hit Go. On the other hand, if you just want to search within one category, click on the one you want to look through, look over to the right and you'll see a link that says "Search This Forum." Click on the down arrow next to it and a search box will come up for you. Again, type in a few keywords and hit Go. Whichever means you go by, this is the perfect way to let the results come to you. What's the #### in My Worksheet? Have you ever found yourself happily working in MS Excel, only to be befuddled by the sudden appearance of #### in a cell where there should be a number? Or, maybe something along the lines of 2E+15 appeared. What is that? Well, that's a good question and believe it or not, but there's a good answer too! (You may not like the answer, but it's a valid one just the same). The deal with the #### is your number is too long to fit in the cell width you've set. I've found that as long as I haven't previously made manual changes to the cell width, it will automatically adjust to a numbers width. But if I've been messing with the width setting, it just leaves it alone. So, when the number is too long to fit in the space, it's letting you know that by displaying the ####. Now, what about the 2E+15, you ask? Well, that's your number put into scientific notation. I find that Excel puts my data into scientific notation if the cell has a general default cell format. If the cell is specifically formatted some other way, you may not see it, but Excel is trying to display some sort of value and that's often the shortest way to display a large number. Looking for a solution to the problem(s)? It's simple. Just make the cell width larger! There are many ways you can accomplish that task. A couple of the fastest have to do with the column label letter. At the top of the column, you'll find the letter label. Each letter is separated from the next column by a vertical line. One way to change the column width using that divider is to place your mouse pointer over the divider to the right of the letter. When it turns into a double sided arrow, click, hold and drag the divider to the right. Release the mouse button when you feel you've made the column wide enough. (You'll know if it's big enough immediately, because the number will be completely displayed). Another way is to get the program to AutoFit to the longest piece of data in the column. The fastest way to accomplish that is to go back to the column label divider to the right on the column. This time though, instead of the old "click and hold" method, go ahead and double click on the divider. Instantly, you'll see the column jump to just the right width to accommodate your data. By the way, you can also change the column width manually in older versions of Excel via the Format menu, Column submenu, Width choice. Excel 2007 users will find that adjustment available under the Home tab on the ribbon, Format button, Column Width choice. AutoFit Selection or AutoFit Column Width (different names for different versions of Excel) will expand all columns currently selected to fit the longest piece of data in the column. (If only one cell is selected, it works just for that column). Here's something I ran into that requires a little warning about working with a number that went into scientific notation. I found that after I followed this tip in Excel 2007, the scientific notation was still used. I had to change the cell format from general to number to get away from the scientific notation, no matter how wide I made the column. Whatever your method of choice or version of Excel, they all remove the #### blues! ~ April

FeedRinse How many of you use RSS feeds? Since they're so popular and common in this day and age, I'm sure many of you do. Well, one of the things you may want to do is filter your RSS feeds. For example, let’s say you get a technology news feed from Yahoo! and you're constantly getting posts about the iPhone and Windows Vista. But since you don't have an iPhone and you don't use Windows Vista, you want to filter out those posts. Not sure how to go about doing that? Then you've come to the right place, because I have exactly what you've been looking for! If you want to filter your feeds, you can use a service called FeedRinse. FeedRinse is very easy to use, so let’s jump right in and give it a spin! 1.) First, head on over to www.feedrinse.com and you'll see the homepage.
3.) Hit the Add Feeds button to continue.
5.) Next, go ahead and add your filters. You can select from post, title, body or author. 6.) When you're all done, click on Save Changes.
9.) Next, click Import/Export and then press Browse to find the file, followed by Upload.

I have a hard time eating left over food. It's usually just a matter of not knowing how to reinvent it into another meal. But with this Web site, I don’t have to rack my brain trying to think of something. I can just put my ingredients into this wizard and let it do its thing! It's really easy to use! All you have to do is select the ingredients and click on the What Can I Make? button. You can search with one to three ingredients. If your search comes up with no results, try to broaden it by dropping an ingredient. I put in spaghetti sauce and cheddar cheese and the wizard came up with 42 recipes. From that search, I found a crock pot pizza recipe I’m dying to try. It looks and sounds delicious! Two great sections on the site are Flavor Combinations and What’s Fresh Now! Flavor Combinations gives you a list of the hottest flavor combos you can try searching for. Some of my favorites are listed, such as garlic, lemon and chicken. A few more favorites are soy sauce, orange juice and ginger. This section gives you great inspiration. What’s Fresh Now gives you a listing of what's in season right now. It allows you to plan your meals around those fresh ingredients. You can even change the month and pre-plan your meals. For example, switch the month to November and you'll see what will be fresh for Thanksgiving. Now that I have some ideas for my left over chicken, I think I’ll go get started on dinner.
