Battery Types Did you know there are three different types of batteries that can be used for computers? If you're a computer owner who knows a lot about the little stuff, you may already know this, but if don't or if you're just interested, I'm here to fill you in! All computer batteries fall under three major categories: a backup battery, a bridge battery and a main battery. The backup battery is also known as the "CMOS battery," which is what holds your computer's settings in place (like the time and the date). It helps your computer to remember the basic settings you put into place and it allows you to reboot your computer without having to re-enter all the information again and again. The bridge battery is often found within portable computers and is used as a backup for the main battery. You can use it to save a little power on the main battery. Last is the main battery. It's only used with portable computers and it's used as the alternate source of power when a computer is not connected through the wall outlet. The main battery is the one used the most by computer owners like you. Now, you know some battery information you can take with you forever! ~ Erin It's Friday, it's Friday! Make sure you keep reading to learn all about mini CDs and how you can use them in your computer, find out how you can have quick access done your way in various MS Office 2007 programs and learn a little more about the new Google Chrome Web browser. Q: A:
They may look really cool, but you might be wondering how you're supposed to use them. How can they work in your computer's CD ROM drive if they're so small? Well, it's simple really. You use them just like you would a bigger CD. Each CD comes with a small hole in the middle, so you just have to place that hole over the opening on your CD ROM tray. Some CD trays even have an indentation where mini CDs can go. You just place it right in the inner circle and push the tray in. It will work just the same as it would if it were the bigger size. Mini CDs come in various formats as well. The normal is an 80 mm disc, which can hold about 21 minutes of music or 180 MB of data. There are also some enhanced density versions that will hold about 34 minutes of music and 300 MB of data. How cool is all of that? So, have you gone mini yet?! ~ Erin Have a question for the newsletter? Submit it at the link below:
Quick Access Done Your Way Working in MS Office 2007? If so, do you like that really tiny toolbar they give you, located above (or below) your ribbons? You know, the Quick Access Toolbar? I'm sure you've noticed the down arrow on the right side that gives you access to a list of common commands you can have placed on the toolbar, right?
Well, what about some of the other features on the ribbons you frequently use? Any way to add them? Well, you could choose More Commands and work through that, but what if you're still not finding the things you really want to add? You know, things that would save you a lot of "ribbon jumping" time if they were displayed on the toolbar all together. If that's your wish, I have a suggestion for you. Simply try a right click. The next time you find yourself wishing you could add a button to the Quick Access Toolbar, just try right clicking over it.
When the right click menu opens, you may very well find that you can add it to the toolbar. Voila. The Quick Access Toolbar put together in your very own way! ~ April

More on Google Chrome I know we talked a little about this yesterday, but here's some more information about Google Chrome for you! As you have heard, Google has finally designed and built a Web browser of its own. And like all Google products, it's different, yet unique. This past Monday (September 1, 2008), Google announced in their blog that they would be releasing their new open source Web browser, titled Google Chrome, on September 2, 2008 in over 100 countries. Since we spend a majority of our time on the Internet searching, chatting, e-mailing and communicating, instead of just viewing simple text pages, Google decided to create a Web browser focused on graphical, interactive Web sites and Web based applications. “What we really needed was not just a browser, but also a modern platform for Web pages and applications. And that's what we set out to build,” stated the Google blog. With the release of Google Chrome, other browsers, such as Firefox, Internet Explorer and Opera will now have some major competition, which might cause the other browsers to introduce new features that rival Google Chrome. Internet Explorer 7 holds about 73 percent of the Web browser market, according to Net Applications. So, if Google wants to take a piece of that away from Microsoft, they have a major battle ahead of them! Google even released a comic book, drawn by Scott McCloud, that introduces the features of Google Chrome. The comic book is available here if you're interested in seeing it. By starting from scratch and building their own foundation, Google hopes their browser will eventually dominate the market. The new Web browser has already been released for Windows and versions for Mac OS and Linux are on the way. Give Google Chrome a try for yourself today! ~ Jack William If you enjoy our tips, tell your friends. That's what keeps this newsletter growing.
